Below you are going to find the key factors to ensuring both a good time and achievement of success within the ranks of SVW. Please take them into consideration if you haven’t, whether you are new to angle feds or have been here for some time.
Visibility
To me, this is an easy one though it’s not apparently for everyone. If your character is involved in an angle, make sure they are putting it over whether they are booked or not. SVW does not have a segment limit for shows in general. And just because you aren’t booked doesn’t mean you can’t sell what you have going on. This also means primarily focusing on what you have, and not just submitting random segments that were never asked for involving characters not currently involved in anything. This is the easiest way to ensure more people care about your angle and your character. This includes segments and on camera role plays. If all you ever do is write off cams for shows and no segments, you are essentially a jobber. Because the fans IC don’t know to like or hate you, so they are going to be apathetic towards you. And that is the worst thing for any character or wrestler in real or imagined feds.
Selling
Selling covers a lot of territory, so I’ll try to cover the high points. The easiest definition is selling injuries and matches you were in, that’s a gimme. Selling also includes making sure you are putting your angle or upcoming big match over with the readers. It’s no fun to write segments for a match, and your opponent not do anything for it. When I see this, I tend not to book those characters much. Because I want people to sell what they have, both sides and not just the one. Everything in SVW lives and dies by what takes place on camera. So if only one or neither of you are selling your angles, no one is going to care and I’m not likely to book those characters much at all. And the potential exists that your angle will die before it even finishes, if neither side is doing anything.
Champions
Being a champion in SVW is a sign that I have faith in you, and am giving you an opportunity to really shine. And as a champion, your character should be very prominent. And that is to say that they are almost flag bearers for SVW. I expect to see them on shows booked or not with some regularity, I expect them to sell their feuds and storylines above all. If you become a champion, it’s a show of faith from me. Because at the end of the day, I’m the one who decides who becomes a champion. If you become one and don’t make an attempt to lift your title up and make it a focal point, I can guarantee you that you won’t have it for very long at all. From the top title to the lowest title, champions need to be a consistent presence booked or not.
Consistency
This is one of the determining factors in my process to decide who to push, and who to potentially make champions. I want consistent efforts that show you are invested and interested in the events surrounding your character. If you put forth efforts like that consistently, you are going to see some traction being made and some upward mobility. If your roleplays read like it was an afterthought and you just threw it together to keep from no showing, you won’t go far at all here. As a matter of fact, you will begin to see that character’s decline. A consistent effort showing me and the others that you are involved is a key way to enjoy greater success. I don’t pay much attention to wins or losses, because one match can change perception at any time. If your character’s record is important to you, an angle fed is not for you. This isn’t the sole determiner of a push or a title run, but it is a major one. Simple equation that I have said time and time again.
Effort = Reward
All these things listed are major factors in what helps me plan for the future. Generally, I have things sorted out for several weeks in advance. But I am always willing to potentially change course, if I see a good enough reason to do so. At the end of the day, what you put into SVW is what you will get out of it. And if you can keep some or all of these simple ideas in mind, I can almost guarantee you that you will enjoy your time here more as a result.
